Bellingham, Wash., June 9, 2017 – Sweet Green Fields (SGF), a leading producer of the stevia sweetener, plans on significantly increasing its current production capacity in China with the addition of a new facility located in Zhenjiang province. Expected to be operational by Q3 of this year, the plans for the facility are set to meet the growth in demand for premium stevia products such as their new Optimizer™ stevia sweetener products.
The move comes at a time when key market drivers, such as concerns on sugar taxes and prevailing attitudes towards sugar reduction, indicate positive trends in consumption of safe and natural zero-calorie sweeteners in the near and long-term.
“This new facility will consolidate SGF’s position as a supplier of choice by ensuring a stable supply and give us the opportunity to grow for the future,” said Dean Francis, SGF’s CEO.
The state-of-the-art facility which previously produced plant extracts and supplements meets both international production and environmental codes. A further advantage of this capacity addition is the enhancement of SGF’s continuity and contingency planning. With two production locations now available if a breakdown should occur in one of the two facilities the second facility can ensure continued supply.
As natural, non-nutritive sweeteners surge in popularity and their acceptance as a healthy choice for combating the global obesity and diabetes epidemic increases, SGF’s investment comes at an important time. The global partnership with Tate & Lyle is already starting to accelerate the demand for SGF’s unique range of stevia-based sweeteners, so the logical next step is to increase capacity to meet the demand.
